MCUs provide LCD control

Microchip announced an expansion of its 8-bit segmented LCD microcontroller (MCU) family with five new devices combining low-cost LCD control with low power consumption. The PIC16LF190x MCUs enable the implementation of LCD into cost- and power-sensitive designs such as security tokens, smartcards, medical devices, home appliances and key fobs. Featuring eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology, with sleep currents down to 20 nA and a typical active current of 35 μA/MHz, the MCUs extend battery life while maintaining accurate timing with an RTC and driving a segmented LCD.

Incorporating Microchip’s Enhanced Mid-range architecture, the PIC16LF190x family provides essential features and performance without incurring the cost of unused peripherals. The optimised feature set integrates up to 14 KB of Flash program memory, up to 512 Bytes of RAM, and up to fourteen 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) channels, as well as serial communication and the ability to drive up to 116 LCD segments. The MCUs also feature capabilities such as an integrated temperature indicator to provide crystal-accuracy compensation, as well as support for low-power RTC and low-voltage detect using the internal ADC and voltage reference.
