Mini-ITX board for POS

22 June 2011 Computer/Embedded Technology

VIA Technologies recently debuted its latest Mini-ITX board paired with the VX900 chipset. The EPIA-M860 constitutes a complete platform for digital signage, media terminals, infotainment devices and online streaming video.

Designed as a full featured, entry level VX900 board, the EPIA-M860 is the first EPIA board which supports Windows Embedded POSReady 7, a flexible operating system designed to seamlessly connect point of service (POS) solutions with peripherals, servers, services and the cloud. The board offers PCI, PCIe and Mini PCIe support, combined with mainstream DDR3 memory and both ATX and DC-in power support.

A fanless 1,2 GHz VIA Nano E-Series processor is joined by the VIA VX900 media system processor providing DirectX 9.0 integrated graphics, HD audio and Gigabit networking. The VX900 supports up to 4 GB of DDR3 1066 MHz system memory and offers advanced video acceleration for MPEG-2, VC-1, H.264, WMV9 and Blu-Ray HD video formats.

Rear panel I/O includes a GigaLAN port, an HDMI port, a VGA port, four USB 2.0 ports, a serial port connector, a DC-in jack (manufacturing option) and both line-out and mic-in jacks. O board connectors provide a PCIe Gen2 x1 slot, a Mini-PCIe socket and a PCI slot, two SATA connections, two voltage selectable RS232 pin headers (selectable to 5 V/12 V), two USB pin-headers for three ports, a SMBus header and digital I/O including GPI and GPO options.
