SIMCom has released its latest low-cost GPRS and GPS combination offering – the SIM908 – to mass production.
The SIM908 is a complete quad-band GSM/GPRS module which combines GPS technology for satellite navigation, delivering a means to develop a low-cost and reliable tracking solution. It is supplied in a 30 x 30 x 3,2 mm surface mount package and is available in a variant (the SIM908C) which is footprint compatible with the popular SIM548C, which reached end of life in July.
Furthermore, the SIM908 has been designed to be the same physical size as the SIM5320E, which is an HSDA/3G device which also features an integrated GPS. This allows customers to carry out new designs with both devices in mind, allowing for migration between the low-cost 2G and high-performance 3G technologies, while using a similar layout.
The development kit for the entire SIM900 range remains standard. Each of the SIM900 family members has its own plug-in module for the SIM900 development/evaluation kit.
