3-in-1 communication board

12 October 2011 Computer/Embedded Technology

Tri-M Technologies’ new TCB1000 series communication board integrates CANbus controllers, serial ports and wireless functionality. It is designed for M2M, telematics and data-logging applications in the military, aerospace, off-highway vehicles, industrial/commercial vehicle, transportation, industrial automation and medical equipment industries.

The board is offered in the PC/104 form factor for standard and harsh environments. It can capture and report data either wired or wirelessly, and integrates GPS as well as multiple serial ports for peripherals.

Incorporating dual isolated CANbus controllers, two MultiTech compatible universal sockets, four isolated RS232 ports and one isolated RS485 port, the TCB1000 offers system builders versatility, allowing them to design with only one board while offering their end users any number of communication configurations. Additionally, build options are available for ‘lighter’ versions which incorporate only the particular features required for more specialised applications.

The TCB1000 offers reliability in harsh environments where temperature, shock and vibration are common problems. On the communications end, the isolated CANbus controller and serial ports ensure against interference between connections and prevent system damage from power surges. For improved reliability and security, software configuration is jumperless and locked after setup, allowing easy standardisation and preventing inadvertent configuration changes.
