Agilent Technologies recently announced that Samsung Electronics has selected a version of its latest single-band dual-mode power amplifier module for the SCH-850 CDMA1/AMPS(2) phone. The Agilent power amplifier module helps Samsung achieve a battery life of up to 130 h on standby and a remarkable 4,7 h of talk using the available 1600 mAh battery, according to the company.
Samsung will also use a commercially-available Agilent module, the QCPM-9801 dual-band, dual-mode power amplifier, in its soon-to-be-introduced SCH-8500 CDMA flip phone. The QCPM-9801 provides two power amplifiers in one package.
The Agilent QCPM-9801 power amplifier is part of a developing Agilent family of high-efficiency power amplifier modules for use in cellular and PCS phones - compatible with both CDMA and AMPS. It has been optimised to offer high efficiency in 800 MHz AMPS mode, while maintaining superior adjacent-channel power ratio (ACPR) and efficiency in the 1900 MHz CDMA PCS(3) mode. The module is fully matched, and operates from a single positive supply, requiring only external decoupling capacitors.
