Athena III is Diamond Systems’ new PC/104 single board computer (SBC) featuring the Intel Atom EX60T CPU and integrated auto-calibrating data acquisition.
As well as combining the functionality of an SBC with a complete analog and digital data acquisition circuit, Athena III is also a viable migration path for Athena II customers.
The 1 GHz Intel Atom E640T CPU offers a balance of performance, power consumption and price, making the board suitable for a wide variety of embedded computing applications. It was designed with rugged applications in mind, featuring an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and soldered DRAM.
Athena III is available as a complete system with a choice of operating system in a specially designed enclosure that eliminates all cable and provides a compact box PC ready for application download and deployment.
The integrated data acquisition circuit includes 16 analog inputs with 16-bit A/D and 150 kHz maximum sample rate, four 12-bit analog outputs, 24 digital I/O lines and two counter/timers. It uses an enhanced 512-sample FIFO with programmable threshold for flexibility and data reliability. The analog circuitry utilises Diamond Systems’ auto-calibration technology to calibrate its A/D and D/A circuits.
Athena III runs Linux, Windows Embedded Standard 7, Windows Embedded CE and QNX. A Linux software development kit is available with bootable images and drivers to get started on design projects right out of the box. Diamond’s free Universal Driver software is also included, which provides a C programming library for the integrated data acquisition circuit, demo programs and example code to assist in rapid application development.
Complete Development Kits – DK-ATHE600A-01 and DK-ATHE1000A-01 - are available with all the components needed to get started on an embedded design project. The kit contains an Athena III SBC, Flash disk with Linux pre-loaded, cable kit, AC adaptor and software CD.
