In order to spare companies the time and cost of sending technicians on long trips to access data and perform maintenance at remote sites, Clever Devices and Designs (CDD) has developed RLOG4 – a virtual RS-232/485 cable, based on GSM/GPRS communications, that it claims is more cost effective than a conventional RTU system.
Easy reception and transmission of data in the MODBUS, PCOM, PROFICOM, TEXT and other protocols is possible, and virtually any programmable logic controller can be accommodated. Both data capture and remote device control are possible. A web interface is offered with customisable look and feel for specific customer requirements.
Many CDD customers are already using this technology to monitor and control devices as far afield as Harare from their desktops in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Early warning of equipment failure or essential maintenance is available immediately so sites are only visited when absolutely necessary.
Applications include monitoring of weather stations, generators, temperature loggers, condition monitoring equipment, server rooms, alarm systems, telephone exchanges, vending machines, cell phone towers and agricultural facilities.
Substantial amounts of time and money can be saved with this South African product that offers low initial infrastructure cost and local support.
