Opto-isolated multiport serial adapters for PCI

15 August 2001 Computer/Embedded Technology

Connect Tech's Blue Heat/PCI opto are RS485 and RS232 compatible, two and four-port optically isolated multiport serial adapters for PCI bus compatible computers. Blue Heat/PCI opto boards are designed to provide robust and reliable industrial strength communications in demanding environments, says the manufacturer.

The adapters offer two or four asynchronous RS232/RS485 serial ports with optical isolation for data collection devices, bar code readers, time clocks, scales and other industrial equipment. The Blue Heat/PCI opto adapter provides an industrial strength solution for control and automation applications requiring single node or multidrop communications over short or long distances, and electrical isolation using PCI bus compatible computers.

Key features: each port is individually optically isolated at 1 kV; comes in four and two port densities with switchable RS485 and RS232 line interfaces; supports baud rates up to 921,6 Kbps under RS485 and 230,4 Kbps under RS232; provides 128 bytes of transmit and receive FIFO buffers, automatic flow and RS485 control; independent port configuration with baud rates from 50 bps to 921,6 Kbps; data bits of 5, 6, 7 or 8; stop bits of 1, 1,5, or 2 and odd, even or stick parity.

The Blue Heat/PCI opto boards currently have support for these operating systems: Linux; QNX 4.2X; QNX Neutrino/RTP; Win95/98/ME/2000/NT 4.0/CE; Solaris (imminent).
