Touch screens are fast becoming the interface of choice for industrial systems, client service and information systems.
Users old and young are now used to the idea that a keyboard is redundant and that these systems can be operated by simply touching the screen and following the prompts to operate the systems and get the information required.
This also applies to controlling complex systems in the case of industrial systems. Pictures and graphic displays can be used to guide the user, and where information needs to be entered a keyboard image can be used. In shopping malls, fast food outlets, industrial control systems and many other applications, touch screens are commonplace nowadays.
Incorporating complete PCs behind the touch screen means that the space requirement is reduced and the complexity of these displays is reduced. The introduction of fanless panel PCs has further reduced the complexity of these displays in that ventilation and heat considerations are eliminated. Panel PCs making use of LED backlighting further reduce long-term maintenance considerations and increase readability.
