VxWorks extends multicore support

Computer/Embedded Technology
Wind River has extended the multicore capabilities of its VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) to include support for the latest Intel, Freescale and ARM processors, and support for key high-performance interfaces required by next-generation intelligent systems.
VxWorks, a fully 32- and 64-bit capable RTOS, provides comprehensive multicore processor support, including asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP), symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and mixed AMP and SMP mode configurations.
In addition, VxWorks can be paired with Wind River Hypervisor for an optimised, scalable virtualisation solution to enable single-core and/or multicore configurations supporting multiple operating systems and AMP/SMP configurations on the same platform.
VxWorks enables flexible choice in system architecture, from small scale single-core, lower-power devices up to large multicore, multi-OS and multi-application devices. It also provides support for hardware offload acceleration on these devices for packet processing, signal and vector processing, and cryptography.
For the extensive connectivity, performance and power management capabilities needed in next-generation devices, VxWorks now includes the latest input/output technologies and high-speed interfaces to support multicore technologies, including USB 3.0, Serial ATA Revision 3.0, PCI Express 3.0 and Serial RapidIO.
