Maxim’s MAX31180 is a low-jitter, crystal-based clock generator with an integrated phase-locked loop (PLL) to generate spread-spectrum clock outputs from 16 MHz to 134 MHz. It is ideal for applications requiring a clock with a precise centre frequency, yet needing to modulate frequency to reduce EMI at the centre frequency and its harmonics.
The device is pin-programmable to select the clock multiplier rate (1x, 2x or 4x) as well as the dither magnitude. Spread-spectrum modulation is selectable at ±0,5%, ±1,0% or ±1,5%. The IC has a spread-spectrum disable mode and a power-down mode to conserve power.
The device exhibits low cycle-to-cycle jitter and low power consumption from a single 3,0 V to 3,6 V power supply. It is housed in an 8-lead μSOP package rated for operation at temperatures between -40°C and +125°C.
