Rack-mount system for industrial computers

29 August 2001 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

QRS, for quality, reliability and service, is an important phrase on which creditable, discerning customers base their purchasing decisions, says VELOCIT-e.

The company has proved the point by continuing to produce large volumes of high-quality basic 19" rack-mount assemblies in the Datarac range. In the case of industrial computers, where the equipment may consist of free-standing cubicles full of 19" rack-mounted equipment, engineers may have to fault-find on the shop floor, in the plant area, or a similar location other than an environment-friendly, air-conditioned computer room. Downtime is critical and obviously needs to be kept to a minimum. Accessibility is a key factor in the Datarac 19" racking system design.

The Datarac 19" racking concept is a complete computer and process control system, specifically packaged for industrial environments. Particular attention is paid to providing a product that is more robust to cope with these environments. The system is tailored to accommodate everything from the smallest individual workstation, through to multicubicle on-line computer installations, says VELOCIT-e. The company offers high-quality, personalised designs to meet the demanding requirements of the industrial markets and all IEC DIN standards.

The individual cell layout, backplane configuration, power distribution and rack- mount details are all geared towards easy accessibility in all types of applications from tough mining situations through to high-risk security systems. Items such as keyboards, mouse-trays, screens and printers are all fully withdrawable; all four sides of the Datarac cubicle are hinged, and can be completely removed if necessary without tools.

If required, fixed shelves can be provided for lift-out items. Different configurations of patch panels can be supplied and standard cutouts are provided for video and keyboard ports, power supplies, data links, and telephones with adequate space for user- configurable cutouts.
