The recently introduced Nano WiReach MAX-SMT product is a communication module from Connect One that allows quick and easy implementation of networking functionality in embedded systems.
When such a system is deployed in the field or moved to a different location, a manual configuration of Wi-Fi settings is required. If the embedded system doesn’t have a keyboard and display, this procedure proves cumbersome as a technician would need to connect to the embedded system with a cable or with a Windows-based laptop that supports ad-hoc Wi-Fi.
The firmware of the new MAX-SMT module has a special feature that allows it to switch between the Wi-Fi access point mode for easy Wi-Fi configuration and Wi-Fi station mode for normal operation, as opposed to older products that required the module firmware to be re-programmed in order to switch between these two modes.
The module’s operation mode can be controlled by the embedded system CPU using AT commands or by pulling its MSEL signal low (with a pushbutton) for 30+ seconds without the help of a host CPU.
