Self-powered wireless instrumentation system

23 October 2013 Computer/Embedded Technology

Magnet has extended its range to include Schneider Electric’s Accutech self-powered wireless instrumentation system. The Accutech range provides solutions for telemetry and remote scada in all industries, including hazardous environments.

Accutech networks, with pushbutton configuration, integrated link tests and a compact design, encompass a selection of versatile instruments and base radios. This self contained system – with integrated power, radio and sensor overcomes the problems of distance, hazardous environments and absence of power, when measuring process variables that are normally difficult to reach and costly to support.

A wide range of instruments is available for measuring these variables, which include temperature, pressure, flow and level data. Accutech field instruments can be used in upstream oil and gas applications, as well as remote plant functions in water and wastewater. This system, with a three year warranty, can withstand extremes of temperature and humidity.

A high-performance, self-powered spread-spectrum radio (2,4 GHz) provides effective network connectivity and long term service using standard integrated antennas. Extended reach options include external directional antennas and integrated Trio long haul data radios that offer 256-bit AES encryption.

These optional external sensor configurations allow installation in underground areas or on process equipment that is normally difficult to reach. External high-gain antennas are available for complex environments where obstructions are present or ultra long reach is required.

Each Accutech base radio can support 100 field instruments, with up to 1 second sampling on instruments. A long lasting lithium battery offers up to 10 years of service and advance notification gives warning before a new field replaceable battery is required.

This system supports the Modbus protocol to provide interoperability with a wide range of industrial equipment and host systems. Accutech Manager configuration and management software provides a user-friendly commissioning interface for Accutech networks, offering remote configuration and firmware upgrades, enhanced diagnostics, field unit authentication to base radio and trending/data collection.
