FHSS RF transceiver

29 January 2014 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The CL024 transceiver from Laird Technologies is designed for long distance serial cable replacement and makes use of frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology to enable multiple networks to coexist in the same area with limited interference.

In addition, the FHSS technology ensures data reliability over long distances, and operation over the licence-free, 2,4 GHz ISM frequency bands means that the units are ready for use with no further certification requirements when designing into new or legacy data systems.

The CL024 utilises the RF engine of the popular RM024 embedded modules in a packaged form which allows easy setup of long range point-to-point or point-to-multipoint networks for serial communication. It is housed in a compact and rugged diecast enclosure and features an RS-232 interface for integration into legacy systems.

Each unit is small and easily portable for use in mobile and temporary settings as well as fixed installations. The radio has a compact size of 11,2 x 6,9 x 3,6 cm and boasts conducted output power up to 125 mW (21 dBm) with antennas available up to 9 dBi for a maximum radiated power of 1 Watt (30 dBm).

The transceiver utilises a server/client architecture for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communications with an unlimited number of clients in a network, API commands to control packet routing and reliable communication with serial UART speeds up to 460,8 Kbps.
