ISDN modem cards 'wake-on-ring'

SPS South Africa has announced the availability of Digi's DataFire Micro V ISDN modem card. The Micro V is the first ISDN card with 'wake-on-ring' and can activate a PC from standby mode on detection of an incoming call. According to Gawie Basson, Digi Sales Engineer at SPS SA, the product is ideal for both the large corporate as well as the SOHO environment.

"There is still a very steep climb ahead for ISDN growth," he says. "Now that Telkom has decreased the rental for their residential ISDN service, we will see more growth in the SOHO market as well."

'The DataFire Micro V is a passive ISDN card for the PCI bus with extremely high net throughput rate. Simple to install, it connects any PC to the network with ISDN speed and provides for file transfer, telephony, fax G3 and answering machine functionality. Thanks to ACPI technology, the card is always ready to receive incoming calls or fax messages even when the PC is in standby mode. On detection of an incoming call DataFire Micro V will activate the PC and start the respective protocols - fast enough to enable successful establishment of the connection. After the connection is closed the PC will automatically switch into stand-by mode again (controlled by an inactivity time-out). DataFire Micro V is available with full CAPI, Version 2.0, support for Microsoft dial-up network and NDIS WAN Miniport to enable multilink PPP connections with up to 128 Kbit/s and COM port driver.

The CAPI integrated fax functionality supports fax transmission and reception with 14,4 Kbit/s on both B-channels simultaneously. ECM (Error Correction Mode) and the popular fax compression methods MH, MR and MMR are provided to significantly reduce transmission times. For high-speed transfer of documents, graphics and other files Euro File Transfer (EFT) client and server application are provided.
