Quad-core smart camera

6 August 2014 Computer/Embedded Technology

ADLINK Technology announced the release of NEON-1040, a new-generation x86 smart camera featuring a quad core Intel Atom processor E3845 running at 1,9 GHz; a 2048 x 2048 pixel @ 60 fps, 1” monochrome CMOS global shutter image sensor; and PWM lighting control support.

The quad core CPU increases computing power, and FPGA co-processors and GPU deliver advanced image processing, both beyond the capabilities of conventional smart cameras. Rich software support and API compatibility further smooth migration from original platforms, making it simple for system integrators to fulfil a variety of inspection application needs.

Over and above high-end global shutter operation for high-speed captures, the system accelerates image pre-processing through the inclusion of LUT (lookup table) and ROI (region of interest), and shading correction. It also offers flexible software development support such as GeniCAM, GenTL for image acquisition, and Open CV and Open CL programming, thereby easing migration while also simplifying integration with motion, I/O and other devices.

Housed in a 68,5 x 110 x 52,7 mm, IP67-rated case, NEON-1040’s rugged construction and M12 connectors allow it to withstand harsh industrial environments such as machine tooling and food/beverage packaging. The additional GigE port enables easy connectivity with external devices, such as GigE Vision slave cameras, and EtherCAT with I/O control modules.

The unit features built-in PMM lighting and versatile I/O support including 2x isolated inputs, 2x isolated outputs, USB 2.0 port, RS-232 ports and VGA output (max. 2560 x 1600 @60 Hz). It provides optional Microsoft Embedded Standard 7, support for 64-bit instructions, 2 GB onboard RAM and up to 32 GB storage.
