Atmel is shipping what it claims is the industry’s lowest-power, smallest-footprint Bluetooth Smart solution in production quantities.
Consuming less than 4 mA in receive and less than 3 mA in transmit mode at 3,6 V, the SmartConnect BTLC1000 devices can allegedly increase battery life by as much as one year or more for certain applications. With their 2,2 x 2,1 mm WLCSP footprint, they are aimed at smart wearables such as fitness trackers and medical devices, along with human interface devices, asset trackers, beacons and many more. The chips can be used as a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) link controller that connects as a companion to any Atmel AVR or Atmel | SMART MCU, or as a standalone applications processor with embedded BLE connectivity and external memory.
