CompactPCI single board computer

7 November 2001 Computer/Embedded Technology

The MIC-3376 from Advantech is a 6U CompactPCI single board computer which accepts Pentium processors up to 600 MHz and higher for optimum computing capability. Based on Intel's 440BX chipset, the device's performance is enhanced by a 100 MHz front-side bus.

With the support of a 66 and 100 MHz bus clock and CPU on-chip 512 KB L2 cache memory, the MIC-3376 can fulfill customers expectations of high-performance computing capability.

A CPU heatsink specially designed for the SECC 2 PentiumIII processor enables the MIC-3376 to operate without a cooling fan on the heatsink.

An optional Ultra2 SCSI interface is optionally available on the front panel. It provides connection to the external RAID system and other SCSI devices with data transfer rates up to 80 MBps. The dual onboard fast Ethernet channels provide teaming functions such as adapter fault tolerance, adaptive load balancing and Fast EtherChannel to increase transmission throughput and reliability. Single or dual PCI-to-PCI bridge options enable the system to drive up to 7/14 PCI master devices.

The MIC-3376 offers all the I/O functions of an industrial computer with the rugged Eurocard form factor. All I/O connectors, reset button and LEDs are placed on the front panel. The built-in high-speed PCI IDE controller provides two separate IDE channels with Ultra DMA/33 mode.

The user-defined J3 connector is designed to support up to four IDE devices and two FDDs. These drives can simply be connected to the backplane or the rear transition board for easy service and maintenance.

Designed for use in mission critical applications, the SBC accepts a CompactFlash memory card, eliminating the need for a rotating hard drive. A watchdog timer can automatically reset the system or generate an interrupt if the system stops due to a program bug or EMI. Connectors are firmly screwed to the front panel, and the replaceable shielding gasket is attached to the panel edge. This reduces emissions and gives better protection against external interference.
