Compact single board computer

21 November 2001 Computer/Embedded Technology

A new compact media single board computer offering AGP 4X, TV-output and VIA quality chipset has been released by Aaeon. The PCM-6898 single board computer incorporates the AGP 4X VGA interface and supports up to 32 MB of shared display memory.

The Ethernet interface100Base-Tx is controlled by the Realtek 8139C chipset. The TV-output encoder utilises the Chrontel 7006 chipset. The board has surround-sound quality audio interface controlled by the VIA 1611 chipset, compatible with SoundBlaster, SoundBlaster Pro and Windows sound system.

Central processing units used on this single board computer may vary, however to acquire the full potential of this embedded computer the manufacturer suggests Intel Celeron 300-766 MHz (with system bus frequencies of 66 MHz) or Pentium III 500-850 MHz (system bus frequencies of 100 MHz) or Pentium III 600 MHz-1 GHz (system bus frequencies of 133 MHz). The compact board features built-in audio interface, supporting microphone in, line in/out, speaker out and CD in capabilities, VGA resolution up to 1024 x 768 at 16,7m colours, supporting noninterlaced CRT and up to 18/24/36/48 bit LCD through DVO module.

As for on-board memory a 168-pin SDRAM socket can provide a maximum of 256 MB of memory. A compact flash connector is also on-board. For expansion modules a PISA, PC/104 and PC/104+ connectors are also integrated.

Other features include four USB ports onboard, three RS232 serial ports and one RS232/422/485 serial port.
