Faster imaging possible with rugged vision boards

Microchip says its fixed-code encoder is the ideal entry point for unidirectional remote-control applications. The HCS101 fixed code encoder provides remote-control functionality in nonsecure or limited-secure applications such as toys, fan and lighting control, entertainment systems and smoke detectors. In addition, the HCS101 is pin compatible with Microchip’s high security HCS201 KEELOQ code hopping encoder and allows developers to offer two levels of security with a common reusable design.

The HCS101 has a 66-bit transmission code that reduces the threat of code scanning. Operating over a wide voltage range of 3,5 to 13 V, the HCS101 provides support for up to seven functions from three button inputs. Integrated features include an oscillator, timing components, EEPROM, button input pulldown resistors and low battery detection circuitry. The only additional components required are the buttons, battery and RF circuitry to produce a very low cost system. The HCS101 requires a compatible decoder which is typically a PICmicro microcontroller with firmware. Microchip also supplies PICmicro firmware routines that accept transmissions from the HCS101.

The HCS101 is available in 8-pin PDIP or SOIC packages. A range of evaluation and development systems are available including Microchip’s KEELOQ evaluation kit and the PRO MATE II universal programmer with in-circuit serial programming socket.
