Xilinx Virtex-II based development platform for field upgradable applications

13 February 2002 Design Automation

Avnet Design Services, the technical arm of Avnet Electronics Marketing, and Xilinx, have jointly announced availability of the Internet Reconfigurable Logic (IRL) Development Platform.

This development kit, the ADS-XLX-PMC-IRL, supports the Xilinx PAVE Framework for IRL applications. With this platform, designers can quickly and easily create new field-upgradable applications using the Xilinx IRL technology to speed products to market, extend product lifetime, expand revenue streams, and lower in-field service costs.

"Internet Reconfigurable Logic is a very powerful tool for designers of electronics products to speed time to market, extend product lifetime, enhance features, and to implement upgrades and service calls remotely. What has been missing was a comprehensive development methodology and platform on which designers could build IRL-based applications," said Warren Miller, Vice President of Marketing for Avnet Design Services. "With the introduction of the Xilinx PAVE Framework and the IRL Development Platform from Avnet Design Services, designers of FPGAs now have a fast path to the benefits of IRL technology."

The Avnet Design Services Xilinx PMC IRL Reference Design Kit gives users an FPGA-based target development environment on which IRL applications can be created. When used with a Single Board Computer (SBC) running the Wind River Systems VxWorks RTOS, designers can immediately begin development on a flexible hardware platform using a working software environment. The kit contains a development board with two Xilinx Virtex-II 2V1000 FPGAs, a 32 bit PCI Bus Interface, a PowerPC Interface, JTAG and SelectMap configuration ports, an AvBus expansion connector, two 16 MB SDRAMs, six 512 Kb x 18 QDR SRAMs, 2 MByte Parallel Flash memory, and two 4 Mb Serial Flash memories. Also included is the PAVE Framework for Wind River Systems, a PAVE demonstration application and complete documentation.
