Sub-compact single board computer with Intel fanless MCU
5 June 2002
Computer/Embedded Technology
Aaeon's Gene-5310 single board computer features Intel's 'Tillamook' MMX BGA CPU that runs at 200/233/266 MHz. This is a fanless CPU with built in L2 Cache, 256 MB of memory, and a front side bus that runs at 66 MHz. A further added function to the Gene-5310 are dual Intel 82559GD LAN controllers, capable of 10/100Base-T Fast Ethernet connection.
In 102 x 127 mm form factor it operates on 5 V of power. Aaeon has also developed a Gene-Series pocket chassis to support this line of SBCs (power unit included).
On-board memory consists of a single 144-pin SODIMM socket providing 128 MB of memory. Also, located on the solder side is a Type II Compact Flash socket offering up to 1 GB of memory. The Cbi7 2D/3D VGA chipset has 8 MB built-in display memory. TV output signals can also be achieved, through the TV Express MA830 digital TV encoder (supports Pal and NTSC).
Other features include audio chipset VT82C686B with integrated SoundBlaster and SoundBlaster Pro compatibility; the ability to use (2) IDE devices, (2) floppy disk drives, (1) parallel port, (2) USB ports, (1) IrDA port and (2) serial ports.
