Emulator uses the high-speed USB 2.0 interface

3 July 2002 Design Automation

DSP hardware and software developer, Blackhawk, has made available its next generation USB-based emulator - the USB 560 JTAG Emulator. The Blackhawk XDS560-class emulator supports Texas Instruments' faster generation emulation technology using the popular and portable industry standard, high speed USB 2,0 (480 Mbps) interface.

The Blackhawk USB 560 JTAG Emulator is backward compatible with USB v1,0/1,1 and can handle very low I/O power supply voltages (0,5 to 5,0 V) while pre-serving compatibility with previous XDS510-class devices. The XDS560-class technology extends capabilities to the developer by providing faster high-speed realtime data exchange (RTDX) bandwidth for realtime visibility, and significantly faster code downloads. Advanced event triggering capabilities help to quickly find and fix difficult realtime software problems.

"Our Blackhawk USB 560 JTAG emulator is portable, easy to use with plug-and-play installation, offers high compatibility and supports existing XDS510 devices. This emulator provides developers with the fastest and most flexible connection they have ever had," said Dick Friedel, president, EWA Technologies, the parent company of Blackhawk. "With support for both new and older devices, this USB-based emulator is going to support developers in the lab, in the field and across multiple DSP architectures."

The Blackhawk USB 560 JTAG emulator is fully compatible with TI's TMS320 and TMS470 devices, as well as TI's Code Composer Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Version 2,1. The drivers supplied with the emulator support Windows 98/2000/XP.

"Blackhawk is continuing its tradition of producing leadership emulators," said Bill Novak, emulation technology product manager for TI. "This emulator will benefit customers that require the convenience, portability, and speed of a USB interface."

Today's advanced DSP development requires the full capabilities of current technologies such as IDEs, optimising compilers for high-level languages, GUIs, debuggers and JTAG emulators. With the sophisticated Code Composer Studio IDE, the plug-and-play simplicity of the Blackhawk USB 560 JTAG emulator, and support for the faster generation of emulation technology from TI, today's developer has access to a powerful and portable tool for DSP development and support.
