Mitel is offering the MT93L16,
a low-voltage acoustic echo canceller (AEC) that delivers optimal performance to a range of telephony applications. The device is based on the company’s Trueplex technology which enhances audible performance while reducing cost by up to a claimed 33% and power consumption by up to 78%, compared to alternative microprocessor solutions.
The market for Mitel’s AEC components spans applications including VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), VToA (voice telephony over ATM), business and mobile telephones, PCs and intercom terminals.
The MT93L16 is a full-duplex solution designed to maintain a high level of performance, even as the industry moves toward VoIP and VToA systems. These packet-based network technologies require voice capabilities that withstand long delays without introducing echo into the system. According to Mitel, traditional solutions cannot meet performance expectations because they default into half-duplex mode and cannot eliminate all residual echoes as required by VoIP systems. Mitel says its Trueplex technology eliminates residual echoes without removing near-end signals or background room noise, providing extremely good voice quality even when long delays are introduced. The AEC technology uses a stable advanced adaptive filter algorithm that constantly tracks changes in the echo path to provide quick reconvergence time for clear voice signals, even during double talk and when signal levels are low. Mitel protects customer investment in this algorithm, as the device integrates on-chip BOOT RAM in addition to on-chip ROM, so engineers can incorporate future factory upgrades to algorithms through a download directly onto the chip.
