Programmer for JTAG interfaced devices

31 July 2002 Design Automation

Ceibo's MP-JTAG programmer is used to program different devices with a JTAG interface. It consists of a box externally connected to a PC by means of a serial link RS232 at 115 kBaud. The programmer can operate standalone without any computer. The PC controlled mode will be referred to as 'engineering mode', allowing software operations not needed in the duplication of OTPs. The 'production mode' uses an internal Flash memory to duplicate the chips and the programmer can be controlled by a few pushbuttons. The internal Flash memory is loaded using the software capabilities.

The JTAG interface frequency maximum is 25 MHz. This is generated by a programmable source from 100 kHz to 25 MHz in steps of 10 kHz. Frequency setting is software controlled. The signal levels are dynamically adaptable from 1,2 to 5 V. Vcc level is also dynamically adaptable from 1,2 to 5 V, while Vpp level is programmable from 1 to 25 V. SRAM memory (for engineering mode) is up to 1 MB while internal Flash (for production mode) can be up to 1 MB. The programmer adapter is connected to JTAG connector and allows direct device programming on a ZIF socket.

In production mode the data is programmed from a Flash memory at the maximum rate that the device under programming allows. In engineering mode the data is first transferred from the PC by RS232 at 115 kBaud. Once the data is stored in the programmer SRAM, the communication is reduced to a simple command set (program, blankcheck, etc) hence, performance will then be similar to production mode.

MP-JTAG has Win 95/NT or later software interface and is 155 x 60 x 250 mm in size. Included are MP-JTAG programmer, user's software, user's manual, RS232 interface cable and in-system JTAG interface cable.
