Mixers with integrated LO amplifiers

14 August 2002 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Hittite Microwave offers a family of GaAs MMIC Mixers with LO and IF amplifiers for Cellular/PCS/3G applications. These mixers are suitable for low cost infrastructure applications where a combination of small size, low LO drive and high linearity/isolation is required.

The 1,3 to 2,5 GHz HMC421QS16 is a high linearity down-converter RFIC coupled with a high dynamic range IF amplifier that achieves an output IP3 of +29 dBm. The RFIC provides 8 dB of gain while operating from a single +5 V, 60 mA supply and a LO drive of +10 dBm. The HMC421QS16 requires no external baluns and minimal off-chip components.

The HMC422MS8 and HMC423MS8 both provide 30 to 35 dB of RF/LO isolation and input IP3 of +15 dBm. The HMC422MS8 covers applications between 1,2 to 2,5 GHz band while the HMC423MS8 covers 0,6 to 1,3 GHz. A single positive supply voltage biases the on-board LO amplifiers, with the HMC422MS8 requiring +3 V@30 mA and the HMC423MS8 requiring +3 V@15 mA. These mixers can be used as up or down converters.

The HMC421QS16 comes in a surface mount 16 lead QSOP package (5 x 6 mm) while the HMC422MS8 and HMC423MS8 are both in surface mount 8 lead MSOP packages (3 x 5 mm).
