Adding to its existing range of call progress and tone detector ICs, CML Microcircuits has released a call progress and 'voice' detector for wireline telecom applications. The real asset to this standard call-progress detection product is its ability to detect actual voice or music on the line. This offers real time and cost savings to both the telecoms operator and user.
The CMX683 is a general purpose call progress tone detector for use in monitoring the progress of calls in public switched telephone networks (PSTN) applications. 'Dial Tone', 'Ringing', 'Busy' and 'Unobtainable' states can be distinguished by using the host microcontroller to qualify the cadence of the detected output. Separate outputs integrate the 'voice' activity over both shorter and longer periods, enabling payphone and other billing systems to commence charging only when a line connection has been established.
Using advanced digital techniques to characterise valid call progress tones, unwanted tones, line noise and voice or music signals, the CMX683 has superior sensitivity and low false detection rate. With low power operation at 2,7 V the device is available in 8-pin DIP and 16-pin TSSOP or SOIC packaging.
