Compact interface module for Profibus

Profibus presents some special requirements that cannot be met by a conventional narrow band radio modem without severely compromising the performance of the Profibus network. With these requirements in mind, Radio Data Technology (RDT) has introduced the PB1000 interface module.

According to South African representative, Rotrax Technologies, this product uses a new approach whereby the modem/interface module is itself a Profibus slave rather than simply a communication device. As well as providing radio communications without reducing the host network speed, the PB1000 provides information to the Profibus master concerning the condition of the radio link and allows the user to set fail safe conditions in the event of loss of communications.

The PB1000 (93 x 73 x 46 mm) in conjunction with the RM 9634 radio modem is effective over a range of up to 20 km and meets with numerous international approvals. Profibus address is set by exterior accessible switches and there is LED indication of power and bus status.
