Ultra-small, ±15 V digital pots have on-chip uncommitted amplifier

20 November 2002 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Maxim's 128-step, high-voltage digital potentiometers, available in a 5 x 3 mm microMAX package are half the size of comparable devices in an 8-pin SO. These MAX5437/MAX5439 devices include a general-purpose, on-chip, high-voltage, uncommitted operational amplifier, which provides additional reductions in board space and cost.

These new digital pots use dual operating voltages of ±5 to ±15 V, or single operating voltages, such as 0 to +10 V, 0 to +15 V, or 0 to +30 V. They are excellent for liquid crystal display (LCD) contrast adjustment or high-voltage trimming applications. Other features include low 35ppm/°C end-to-end and 5 ppm/°C ratiometric resistor temperature coefficients, a 3-wire SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface, power-on reset to midscale, and an amplifier shutdown mode.

The MAX5436/MAX5437 are available in 50 kW resistances and the MAX5438/MAX5439 in 100 kW resistances.
