PCI processor boosts system bandwidth

The RC32438 integrated communications processor expands IDT's Interprise family. This PCI device delivers enhanced system bandwidth to communications applications within the Enterprise and access market segments. The RC32438 incorporates a 32-bit MIPS CPU core with a DDR memory controller, a 32-bit version 2.2 peripheral component interconnect (PCI) controller and two on-chip Ethernet interfaces. Designers have a choice of popular embedded operating systems, including VxWorks and Linux and a selection of development tools. The RC32438 includes several key design features to boost system bandwidth. Two Ethernet interfaces reduce the level of bus traffic on other shared external buses and frees up bandwidth for other peripherals. The PCI bus controller is optimised for bursting data and the device also incorporates a DDR memory controller that provides designers with higher memory bandwidth systems than SDRAM-based solutions.
