Integrated development environment for 8051 to XA

12 February 2003 Design Automation

The Rkit-51+XA is a toolchain from Raisonance that simplifies the migration of projects from 8051 (8-bit) to XA (16-bit). All the tools of the company's Rkit-XX, including optimising C Compiler, macro-assembler, linker, realtime OS, ROM monitor and simulator, for two different architectures, are included under one single development environment called RIDE (raisonance integrated development environment).

RIDE features colour syntax highlighting editor, project manager, on-line help and full control over all the tools of the toolchain. From editing to compiling, linking and debugging (with the simulator, ROM monitor or realtime emulator), it helps increase productivity by placing all the tools in a coherent and easy-to-use user interface.

For debugging, RIDE provides a rich variety of views into one's application (main registers, hardware, symbols, stack etc,) and a graphical trace view. For more complex projects it allows multiprocessor simulation and user-defined peripherals/hardware.

This special version supports two different architectures, and designers to maintain a dual project '8051-XA', switching at any time from a 51-derivative to an XA-derivative, just with one mouse-click.

The RKit51+XA provides an upward compatibility path for converting your 8051-based applications. Each tool accepts existing 8051 directives and syntax. In this way the new XA core is seen as a superset of the 8051. An 8051-based C language file is directly compiled. An 8051-based assembler file is easily translated by the integrated translator, and then assembled in the usual way.

The RKit-51+XA software package includes the following tools: assembler; ANSI-C compiler; RTOS; assembly translator; simulator; ROM-monitor; emulator; and emulator drivers are available.
