5G RedCap is on track

31 May 2024 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Thanks to 5G, the new radio technology features ultra-reliable low latency, higher capacity, and extensive network connectivity.

The implementation of 5G SA network infrastructure accelerates the deployment of more efficient and cost-effective 5G connectivity solutions commercially. 5G RedCap provides an affordable 5G solution that satisfies mid-tier connectivity requirements by presenting optimised power efficiency and simplified hardware and antenna design. This is crucial for IoT applications such as smart grids, industrial automation, 5G FWA, and smart wearable devices. With the commercial availability of 5G RedCap modules, it will expedite the seamless transition from 4G to 5G, ensuring the massive utilisation of 5G advancements.

According to Counterpoint Research, 5G RedCap modules are poised to account for a remarkable 18% of all cellular loT module shipments by 2030, underscoring the technology’s immense market potential. As a revolutionary 5G technology, 5G RedCap empowers a diverse array of industries to achieve unprecedented efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and intelligence.

Fibocom is committed to driving the deployment of 5G RedCap, facilitating accessible and efficient 5G connectivity for global clients. The FG132 series is a high-performance 5G Redcap Sub-6 GHz wireless communication module. This series supports 3GPP R17 RedCap technology, offering a maximum downlink speed of

223 Mbps and uplink speed of 123 Mbps under the 5G RedCap network, and a maximum downlink speed of 195 Mbps and uplink speed of 105 Mbps under the LTE network.

The FG132 comes in various sub-models: GL for global operator frequency bands and NA for North American operators. It supports 5G SA networks, backward compatibility with 4G, and caters to 5G private networks and slicing requirements.

Featuring compact LGA packaging at 32 x 29 x 2,4 mm, the module shares a pin layout compatible with the Fibocom NL668 series Cat 4 and MC116 series Cat 1 modules, facilitating seamless 5G/4G product compatibility design. The FG132 is positioned for mid-rate IoT markets including industrial gateways, security monitoring, fixed wireless access terminals, vehicle installations, and energy applications.
