UWB transceiver IC for myriad applications

23 June 2021 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The DW3210 from Qorvo is an ultra-wideband (UWB) transceiver IC that operates in the UWB channels 5 (6,5 GHz) and 9 (8 GHz). The device is interoperable with the Apple U1 chip and delivers a data rate of up to 6,8 Mbps and ranging accuracy of 10 cm.

The transceiver is based on IEEE802.15 4a and 4z-BPRF standards and supports FiRa compliant functions like two-way ranging, time difference of arrival and phase difference of arrival. It has two antenna ports to allow phase difference of arrival implementation with a single chip. The UWB IC can securely measure time of flight and payload encryption, and has low power consumption features. It requires a DC supply of 2,4-3,6 V and is suitable for coin cell applications.

The DW3210 is available in a QFN package that measures 5 x 5 mm and can be controlled via an SPI interface. It is ideal for mobile phones, high-precision real-time location systems, location-aware wireless sensor networks, asset tracking, factory/warehouse automation and security, healthcare staff and patient location, retail security, navigation, customer analytics and connected home applications.
