Dual antennas allow site or technology sharing

6 February 2013 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Amphenol Antenna Solution’s range of TWINLINE dual polarised 65 degree azimuth beamwidth antennas is available in single-band and multi-band designs offering remote electrical tilt (RET) capability. The antenna structure consists of a sleek and low-profile design with a single shroud that houses two identical antennas (double antennas) side-by-side to allow sharing of site or technology.

The TWINLINE range is available in twin single-band 900 MHz, twin dual-band and twin tri-band versions with the additions of 1800 and 2100 MHz band capability. Amphenol is currently in the process of introducing versions with an extension of the low band to 790 MHz.

The antennas are designed with a width smaller than two standard Amphenol antennas side-by-side and an optimised aerodynamic shape to reduce the effects of wind loading.

The TWINLINE range enables sharing of one site between two different operators or sharing of two different technologies through one operator without the use of a combiner. With just a single installation, two different operators can share an antenna while minimising the visual appearance of the site.

A TWINLINE antenna also allows an operator to share a single allocated sub-band with two different technologies such as GSM and UMTS. Since a combiner is not needed with the antennas, sharing of site or technology can be implemented with ease and with minimal loss of signal.

All antennas in the TWINLINE range benefit from Amphenol’s RET control concept with fully embedded RET motors and a single non-protruding control module through the Multiple Device Control Unit (MDCU). The MDCU can also be replaced with another module, the Multiple Device Dual Unit (MDDU), which offers two separate 3GPP/AISG controls of all the internal motors.

Variations of these antennas with internal diplexers between the 900 MHz low band and one high band are available.
