Wireless mesh networking software

16 July 2014 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

California Eastern Laboratories (CEL) announced the field trial release of its new MeshWorks wireless software platform, a turnkey solution enabling fast development and deployment of wireless sensors and control networks within the industrial, building automation, connected home and lighting markets. According to CEL, it allows users to easily add wireless to their network and get it up and running to the cloud within hours.

MeshWorks unites several tools to create and simplify a complete mesh network design as part of the Internet of Things (IoT). It has a powerful graphical user interface (GUI) equipped with a simple Python script generator to help create complete scripts that can be loaded directly onto end devices. No experience is needed in writing C code or being fluent in complex mesh networking protocols like ZigBee or Z-Wave.

The complete platform consists of three key components: a wireless personal area network (PAN) which is powered by CEL’s MeshConnect 2,4 GHz 802.15.4 modules, a GUI-driven programming interface driven by the MeshWorks software suite, and cloud access which is provided by Exosite’s new OpenTether (OT) cellular backhaul offering.

A wired backhaul option is also available utilising CEL’s MeshConnect Ethernet gateway. Both gateway alternatives are offered as options within the MeshWork development kit. MeshWorks also incorporates an optional real-time locating service (RTLS) technology from Buzby Works which can be implemented as supplemental code running on top of the MeshWorks firmware.
