VSAT amplifier harnesses power of GaN

A new high-performance power amplifier for commercial VSAT satellite ground terminals transmitting high-speed Internet data has been introduced by Qorvo. Built on advanced 0,15 μm high-frequency GaN (gallium nitride) technology that boasts three times the power density of past generation GaAs pHEMT solutions, the TGA2636-SM’s 5 x 5 mm surface-mount package delivers 3 Watts of saturated output power for the Ka-band.

Supporting both saturated and linear applications, the device operates across a 28 – 31 GHz frequency range with 25 dB linear gain at 30% power-added efficiency (PAE). When operated in a linear power back-off mode required for higher–order modulation systems, it enables more effective use of the Ka-band spectrum, resulting in higher data rates delivered to the user.
