RFID evaluation systems available

21 May 2003 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

UHF RFID is a technology that few companies have had the opportunity of gaining hands-on experience with. RFID systems can project its energy over meters, but it has certain peculiarities that need to be understood, such as reflection off fixed objects such as floors and walls, multipath, polarisation, etc. Many of these issues can be easily overcome by the informed, such as by correctly placing the antenna.

As part of helping potential solution providers to get experience with UHF RFID, to test potential applications and to test installation parameters, Trolley Scan is offering evaluation systems that can be used for such training or evaluation. These systems have been designed like test equipment, so that users can monitor the output of the receiver, or read the data from a computer display for IT-type applications. Through the use of Yagi antennas, focused beams of energy can be directed to look at the effects of energy bouncing off walls and floors.

The evaluation system comprises a reader, twenty 1 mW RFIDmodule transponders, antennas, cables and instructions. The system only requires mains power and plugs into the COM port of a PC.

Trolley Scan says it has already supplied evaluation systems to private companies/government organisations in 23 countries.
