Smallest GSM/GPRS quad-band direct conversion transceiver

Skyworks Solutions claims its new SKY74117 device is the world's smallest GSM/GPRS quad-band direct conversion transceiver (DCR) at 6 x 6 mm. Based on technology that Skyworks pioneered in 2002 and has since refined through two product generations, this new compact DCR reduces external component requirements from approximately 50 to less than 25. When the SKY74117 is paired with Skyworks' high volume SKY77500 iPAC transmit front-end module, it creates the world's first sub-250 mm² quad-band RF subsystem, supporting GSM850, EGSM900, DCS1800 and PCS1900 cellular voice and data services.
