Prometheus1 is the first and simplest implementation of STMicroelectronics' reference designs based on the Prometheus chipset. This chipset allows to build at low cost either an ADSL network termination or home gateway equipment, interfacing residential LANs to an ADSL access network. Both Wireline and wireless LAN support are provided.
The Prometheus chipset consists of a ST70150 DMT digital chip and ST70136 separate AFE for better ADSL performance. Prometheus1 has been designed to be compliant with the ADSL Forum WT062 V8 standard and implements a bridge or a router between an ADSL link and one or two Ethernet links. The next reference design, Prometheus2, will introduce all other LAN possibilities including wireless LANs and voice support. The software supported by the Prometheus chipset allows the coverage of a wide range of internetworking scenarios involving both single and multiple-user access from different typologies of wired and wireless local networks.
As a reference design, Prometheus1 can be used by customers to develop their own ADSL gateway easily and quickly. The complete reference design package comes on a CD-ROM and includes schematics, bill of materials, PCB layout, Windows PCI driver, hardware manual, user manual and measurements reports.
