By combining a microprocessor reset monitor and a 300 mA LDO regulator in a single 3,0 x 2,85 mm package, AnalogicTech's new AAT3258 significantly minimises design footprint and comes in an 8-pin TSOPJW package. With separate input pins, the regulator also maximises design flexibility by allowing designers to operate each function from independent sources, and more easily and efficiently configure their design.
The AAT3258 has been optimised for very fast start-up and shut-down timing, which is ideal for regulating power for microprocessor blocks that quickly turn to full power from sleep mode. The device also delivers very fast transient response time to react quickly to load current changes.
The device offers a number of power-saving features. It includes a shutdown mode to extend battery life, and the device's dropout voltage is only 400 mV at full 300 mA output. Moreover, the microprocessor reset section typically consumes just 1 μA of quiescent current and has an active low reset output.
It also features over-current/short-circuit protection and over-temperature protection. The LDO regulator output is optimised to function with low-cost, low ESR ceramic capacitors. The device is qualified across the standard -40 to +85°C range.
