Innoveda has released a new software tool and interfaces that complete TransDesign, the industry's first fully integrated harness design solution for automating vehicle-level electrical system design. Developed in cooperation with leading automotive engineers, this new solution covers the design of an entire electrical system, from concept to manufacturing support. According to the company, this tool enables manufacturers, for the first time, to design electrical harness systems and packaging details concurrently, using a complementary mechanical design (3D) environment. Further, the solution eliminates the labour and time-intensive manual verification previously required during the engineering process, and allows engineers to share graphical data related to designs through common web browsers.
Integrated tools for electrical system design
The new comprehensive TransDesign solution includes the TransHarness tool, new computer graphics metafile (CGM) interfaces, and existing software tools:
* TransHarness - a new tool for defining manufacturable harnesses.
* Computer Graphics Metafiles (CGM) Interfaces - three new interfaces complement Innoveda's TransCable, TransLayout, and TranSACT tools.
* TransLayout - a tool for auto-routing and wire synthesis of a vehicle's complete electrical system.
* TransCable - a tool for design capture.
* CAT/TransCable - bi-directional software interface to CATIA.
* SDRC/TransCable - bi-directional software interface to SDRC's Ideas.
* TranSACT - a tool for the automated creation of physical schematics.
TransDesign is custom-configurable depending on user requirements. The new Innoveda design solution enables designers to capture subsystems logically, using components and signals or nets, without considering physical attributes of the nets such as gauges or number of wires implementing a signal. Based on this data, TransLayout defines the physical makeup of the system, using auto-routing and wire synthesis. The process enables reuse of logical designs and integration with leading mechanical CAD tools
