USB modem connects to EDGE on GSM networks worldwide

2 November 2005 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Falcom has released to market an embedded USB wireless modem for GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks. Samba 75 is a plug-and-play device with built-in antenna that offers quad-band GPRS and EDGE connectivity with a USB port, making it ideal for those who want to access wireless networks on PCs and laptops without PCMCIA card slots.

This wireless USB modem presents new opportunities to offer fast wireless connections in an alternate form factor. The increased speed of EDGE (enhanced data rates for global evolution) enables customers to work more easily with larger files and offers faster access/browsing and Web-based applications and connectivity to markets that previously had no way of accessing it.

This wireless engine can be connected into a wide variety of mobile devices and offers 'always-on' data, and messaging functionality. EDGE is the second step in the evolution of GSM to 3G, allowing data speeds up to 384 Kbps.

SAMBA 75 is fully type-approved and is offered to the OEM, distribution or vertical consumer markets.
