860-960 MHz circularly-polarised patch antenna for RFID applications

30 November 2005 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Poynting Antennas has added a new circular patch antenna to its range of specialised antennas. This antenna covers the 860-960 MHz band which includes both the EU and USA RFID bands. It is ideal for use with RFID readers.

One of the first companies that is using the company's new RFID antenna is Scanology. This company, based in The Netherlands, supplies barcode and RFID solutions to the Netherlands, Belgium and neighbouring countries. According to Joop Huijbers, its managing director, the design of the antenna was well accepted by its RFID engineers.

The antenna has a gain of 6-7 dBi with a VSWR of less than 1,3 over the band. It is circularly polarised (for reading in any orientation) and is supplied with a N-type female connector as standard, but other options are available. The 250 x 250 mm antenna has been designed to be waterproof and is easy to install. For optimum transmitted power, the antenna has a low axial ratio.
