Webb Industries, a leading local player in the telecoms hardware and accessories sector, has further underlined its role as a major innovator with the launch of the M3WB, a ground-plane independent half-wave antenna for use with the Orbcomm satellite network.

Orbcomm is a wireless telecoms company supplying narrow-band, data communications and geo-positioning services on a global basis. The company owns and operates a network comprising 30 low earth orbit satellites and terrestrial gateways deployed worldwide. Webb Industries' engineering manager Terry Reuss explains that the company provides products that have been specifically designed for this network and are electrically efficient for their physical size.
Reuss says that, being ground-plane independent, the M3WB has achieved a significant reduction in size, which makes it ideal for the burgeoning asset-tracking market, such as keeping tabs on costly earthmoving equipment, trucks, trailers, ships, trains and much more.
"This is a reduced-height, half-wave antenna for use in utility, mobile and marine Orbcomm applications. As with the M2WB, the main difference is that the antenna is supplied with an hermetically-sealed bulkhead TNC connector at the base of the antenna," comments Reuss. "Supplied with or without a mounting bracket, a further advantage of the M3WB is that it can be used on the same bracket as the Nemo GPS antenna, designed specifically for the GPS satellite tracking system."

Webb Industries has become one of the leading local innovators in ancillary products for telecommunications infrastructure. Apart from its antennas, the company offers a comprehensive range of coaxial cables and connectors, duplexers and filters, earthing, lightning protection, as well as the supply and installation of masts and towers.
