Infineon Technologies has released the TDA5252 transceiver for use in the 915 MHz ISM-band, optimised for use in remote control (car alarm, remote start), wireless sensor networks, home automation and other low-power applications such as metering and HVAC. It is a highly integrated monolithic ASK/FSK transceiver for half-duplex bi-directional data communication with speeds up to 64 kbps and filtering, VCO and PLL fully integrated on-chip. The high transmit power (typically +9 dBm) and high receive sensitivity (typically -109 dBm) combined with the low current consumption (12 mA in transmit mode/9 mA in receive mode) make the TDA5252 ideal for battery operated systems. In addition, the transceiver has integrated self-polling logic with a fast data rate detection which allows for ultra-low current applications with the transceiver to 'wake up' the microcontroller only if a valid radio frequency signal is present. The digital interface of the TDA5252 to a microcontroller is handled through an I²C bus or a 3-wire bus.
