Chips enable cost-effective wireless control

Freescale is providing two new devices to help developers streamline existing RF solutions and add the convenience of wireless control to their products. The MC33696 PLL-tuned UHF transceiver and MC33596 low-voltage receiver can be used for remote keyless entry, garage door control, RFID products, alarm monitoring, wireless alarm and security systems, home automation and automatic meter reading.
The addition of a context switching feature enables the MC33696 and MC33596 devices to be optimised for automotive applications such as remote keyless entry (RKE), tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) or passive entry receivers in the car body. The devices can be used across a wide voltage range of 2,1 V to 5,5 V.
Both devices operate in the 304 MHz, 315 MHz, 426 MHz, 434 MHz, 868 MHz and 915 MHz ISM bands and offer receive sensitivity up to -108 dBm. They also provide a digital and analog received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and an embedded data processor with programmable word recognition. The MC33696 transceiver provides OOK and FSK modulation and a transmitter programmable in four steps from -19 to +7 dBm.
