Dual DAB+ and DMB decoding in a single radio

Israeli company EtherWaves, a developer of digital automobile radio Intellectual Property (IP), has developed a powerful software defined radio (SDR) solution based on a single low-power Blackfin BF522 processor from Analog Devices.
The new EtherWaves Dual-Tuner can simultaneously decode two digital signals from different (or identical) systems, such as DAB+ or DMB, giving the ability to provide DAB audio service and traffic information simultaneously. When the baseband decoding of two services is not necessary, the system can use the dual-tuner capability for diversity reception. This development is seen as a major step forward in the efforts to integrate driver assistance into the infotainment centres of the next generation of automobiles.
"The European automotive industry has long been seeking a cost-effective solution to the challenge of dual digital radio reception and for seamless reception when travelling between regions with different digital radio standards, as well as for the future standards-proof flexibility which can only be achieved by SDR. The combination of the ClearSignal Dual-Tuner with multistandard support running on a single BlackFin processor is a natural fit," said Marius Gafen, vice president of Product Marketing at EtherWaves.
