FTDI has announced the availability of its 5th generation of USB to UART/FIFO ICs. The FT2232H and FT4232H support the 480 Mbps USB 2.0 Hi-Speed specification and can be configured in a variety of industry standard serial or parallel interfaces such as UART or FIFO. The 4232 offers four and the 2232 two configurable interfaces. Two of the 4232’s interfaces and both of the 2232’s interfaces can be configured as UART, JTAG, SPI, I²C or bit-bang mode serial interfaces with independent baud rate generators. The additional two interfaces of the 4232 offer UART or bit-bang options. In addition, the 2232 can be configured as a dual FT245 FIFO, in a host bus emulation mode, a CPU interface FIFO mode or a fast opto-isolated serial interface mode. Both devices support a data transfer rate up to 12 Mbps when configured as an RS232/RS422/RS485 UART interface and higher than 25 MBps over a parallel FIFO interface.
