Phoenix Contact’s new, compact managed switches FL Switch MCS with 16 twisted pair ports or 14 twisted pair and two glass fibre interfaces now also enable the saving of device configurations on the replaceable configuration memory MEM PLUG. This enables quick setup and easy device replacement for servicing, without additional configuration settings via a software tool.
A MEM Plug/MRM can be used to expand the MCS switches with a media redundancy manager (MRM) function (in accordance with the IEC 62439 MRP protocol). The media redundancy protocol (MRP) ensures short switching times in the event of a data channel interruption. The managed compact switches can be used in both Profinet and EtherNet/IP networks.
As with all smart managed switches, the Profinet operating mode has an extended range of functions with the PDEV function that includes displaying related environment and topology information. This information is determined using the link layer discovery protocol (LLDP) and can be used for a planned/actual network comparison, among other things. The PDEV function is also used to display the transferred information via the corresponding Ethernet ports.
